Response to COVID-19 (updated 4/8/2020)

Following the executive order signed by the Nebraska Governor and Secretary of State on April 7, 2020, our office is closed to the public with the exception of voters who need assistance in marking their ballots. Please see below for more information on adjustments made due to COVID-19.

Assistance for Voters with Disabilities

Voters with disabilities may contact our office at (402) 444-8683 (VOTE) and make an appointment to come and use the ExpressVote terminal or receive personal assistance in marking their ballots through May 11th. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. More information is available under Voters with Disabilities.

No In-Person Early Voting

Due to COVID-19 and the effort to keep our office operational so we are able to continue to conduct the May 12th Primary Election, there will be no in-person early voting. This includes voting at our office and picking up a ballot from our office on someone else’s behalf.

All early voting will be conducted by mail. More information is available under Early Voting or contact our office at (402) 444-8683 (VOTE) if you have questions regarding your voting options

Voting By Mail

All voters registered at their current address were mailed an application to request a ballot to be mailed. We encourage all voters to request a ballot and vote by mail for the health and safety of poll workers and other voters. Applications must be received by our office no later than May 1st at 6:00 p.m., and can be returned by mail, to a drop box, or emailed. More information is available under Early Voting. Also, check out our Top 10 Tips for By-Mail Voting!

Voter Registration

By-mail voter registrations must be postmarked by April 24th. Online voter registrations must be submitted by April 27th at 11:59 p.m. Voter Registration Applications may be delivered to a drop box by April 27th at 5:00 p.m. Other locations for voter registration are most likely closed due to COVID-19; verify if a location is open prior to visiting. More information is available under Register to Vote.

Voters that do not register by the previously mentioned deadlines may register using the self-service station in our office entrance until May 1st at 6:00 p.m. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. One person will be allowed in the entrance area at a time in order to comply with social distancing requirements. Others waiting may wait outside of the entrance along the sidewalk on the marked spaces.

Election Deadlines

Election deadlines have been updated to correspond with the changes due to COVID-19.

Poll Workers

We need poll workers in order to staff each polling place on Election Day. Volunteer to work the polls on May 12th by completing the New Worker Form and completing the online training and quiz.

We are encouraging as many voters to vote by mail as possible; however, the polls still need to be open. Poll workers will be provided with N95 masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, sanitation wipes, and a pen for every voter. Social distancing will also be implemented at the polling places. More information is available under Election Worker Safety.

Polling Places

Polling places are scheduled to open on May 12th. There have been many changes to polling place locations due to COVID-19. If a polling place is changing, voters affected by that change will receive a yellow postcard. Voters may also check their polling location under Find Your Voting Information.

Polling place information continues to be subject to change. If you must go to your polling place on Election Day, please verify your polling place location under Find Your Voting Information or by calling (402) 444-8683 (VOTE).

While polling places are scheduled to open, we encourage all voters to request a ballot and vote by mail for the health and safety of poll workers and other voters. In the event that you’re not feeling well on Election Day, you will not need to worry if you vote by mail. More information is available under Early Voting.

Each polling place will be provided with a sanitation kit and a pen for every voter, and social distancing will be implemented. However, if you are not feeling well on Election Day, please do not risk the health and safety of the poll workers and other voters by entering the polling place.
